From 1976 to 1983, the Chinese Science Fiction entered a brand-new peak time for inditement? creation. In this period, it was tightly intertwisted with the modernity target, which is to be rebuilt for the society. In the pursuit of the modernized context, the Chinese Science Fiction was invoked and positively participated into the modernized “metanarritive” in its own discourse. However, it constantly encountered the modification of the ideology, which harmonized the Chinese Science Fiction with the theme in this times by disciplining its conception and skills. This paper tries to expatiate from the modernity angle on the creation situations of the early 1980s Chinese Science Fiction.
This paper takes the "Lunar Colony" as an example, which is the most representative science fiction novel in late Qing dynasty, making in-depth analysis from the visual angle of the space-time concept. By "Lunar Colony",for the first time "Moon" is taken as a hypostatic space concept. Meanwhile, it gets rid of the Sinocentric space concept which has been a primary idea of traditional Chinese literature, and adopts the concept of "China being a member of the world" instead. Next, its time concept is different from the cyclical time concept of traditional Chinese literature because the "Lunar Colony" is based on the linear time in Darwinism. The reason for these changes was the introduction of western thought. Rooted in the West, after being introduced into China science fiction not only disseminated the new concepts, but also inspired the imagination of modernity with the new space-time concept. Featured by works like the "Lunar Colony," late Qing science fiction was one of the sprouts of Chinese literary modernity at the turn of century. Therefore, more attention should be paid to this new genre. It has considerable significance in the research of the "Chinese literary modernity."
