Shaoling Ma is a fifth-year Ph.D candidate at the University of Southern California. Her research interests include continental philosophy, French theory, in particular post-structuralism, late nineteenth and turn-of-the-century American and Chinese fiction, and comparative imperialisms, as well as contemporary Chinese cinema. She has published in Angelaki, Theory and Event, Discourse, etc. Shaoling is currently working on her Ph.D dissertation on the relational workings of the "social" and the transnational in late 19th century American and Chinese utopia and science fiction.
