Fancying China’s Revival: A Study of Lu Xun’s Science Fiction Translation when Studying in Japan
This paper reviews in detail Lu Xun’s translation of science fiction when studying in Japan, and makes farther analysis. At first, by describing the historical details of the publication of Lu Xun’s translation works of science fiction, and close reading of the texts, the paper discusses Lu Xun’s early literary ideas and social thoughts embodied in the translating activities. In the second part, the paper analyzes Lu Xun’s view of science fiction on the basis of his “Preface to From the Earth to the Moon.” In conjunction with Lu Xun’s life experience, the third part points out the main factors that impelled him to translate and introduce science fiction. In conclusion, this paper advanced some critical comments on Lu Xun’s translation of science fiction, plus some issues to be explored.

On October 26, 2010, the organizing committee for the Second XINGYUN Awards convened at the offices of the World Chinese Science Fiction Association in Chengdu. The meeting passed the Charter for the 2011 2nd XINGYUN Awards, signifying the formal launch of prize’s second cycle. Award organizers have evidently learned from the experience of the first cycle: the new charter drops the fantasy category, constraining nominations to the field of science fiction, with which WCSFA members are more familiar.

The Three Body trilogy is now complete, a monumental masterpiece of Chinese science fiction, clocking in at a total length of 880,000 characters. Writing the third volume, 360,000 characters in length, took Liu Cixin roughly a year. The publisher has revealed that Three Body III will be released in November at the earliest. Beginning on September 15, samples began to be released online and will eventually make up an excerpt of 10,000 characters.
