那檀·霭孙

加州大学洛杉矶分校(UCLA)亚洲语言文化系博士候选人。主攻晚清及现当代中国文学、思想史、电影。于亚利桑那大学获本科(2001)与硕士(2004)学位。现致力于研究中国科幻小说的早期历史与发展,将于2011年完成以此为主题的博士论文。

曾讲授中文、中国文明、儒学在东亚以及东南亚学等课程。现为UCLA助教,讲授 “东亚政治,社会和城市文化“。

Nathaniel Isaacson is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at UCLA. His interests include late Qing through contemporary Chinese literature and intellectual history, and cinemas. He received a B.A. (2001) and an M.A. (2004) from the University of Arizona, both in East Asian Studies. He expects to complete his dissertation by spring of 2011. At present, he is conducting research for his dissertation exploring the history of Chinese science fiction.

Nathaniel has taught courses in Mandarin Chinese, Chinese civilization, the role of Confucianism in East Asia, and Southeast Asian Studies. Currently, Nathaniel is working as a Teaching Fellow for a course entitled "Politics, Society and Urban Culture in East Asia."

This past weekend, March 31 – April 3, marked the 70th anniversary of the Association for Asian Studies, celebrated by a joint conference with the International Convention of Asia Scholars in Honolulu, Hawaii. Of particular interest to the field of Chinese sf studies was our panel “Mr. Science at the Writing Desk: Science Fiction, Adventure, and Utopia in Modern Chinese Literature”
